Human life international Kenya, an affiliate organization of the human life international is a prolife organization which has been at the forefront in advocating for the protection of human life from conception until natural death while holding a very strong stand against vices of abortion and contraception practices in the society.
It started operations back in 1980s led by Rev. Fr. Prof. Raphael Wanjohi who was the director. Currently the organization is led by Rev. Fr. Samuel Gatimu and the headquarter office is located in Nyeri, Kenya.
HLI KENYA focused on teaching the aspect of Prolife and Profamily to as many people as possible and owing to the fact that the organization is directly linked to the church, different chapters were developed to enable it spread the information through the church. These included the Priests chapter and the Seminarians/nuns chapter.
The need to increase reach of information to many more people led to formation of other chapters which included the professionals’ chapter which was made of people who are practicing in different careers like law, accounting, medicine etc. and the student’s chapter which targets teaching prolife in different tertiary learning institutions like universities and colleges around the country.
As at now, HLI has 4 active chapters which have been mentioned above. The student chapter is broadly divided into two: The universities and colleges organization (UCO) which covers the Nairobi and central region of Kenya and is made up of institutions like University of Nairobi and it’s campuses, Kenyatta University, Catholic University of East Africa, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University and many more prospective institutions like Machakos University and Dedan Kimathi University.
The other division of the student chapter is the MEMA which covers the Rift Valley and Western regions of Kenya and is made up of institutions like Egerton University, Laikipia University, University of Eldoret, and Maseno University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and prospective institutions like Kibabii University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science And Technology and Kisii University
HLI KENYA boasts of its widespread reach across the country and acknowledges the work in progress in the teaching, formulation and implementation of policies in regard to the main aspects of Prolife and Profamily in the society. HLI KENYA also acknowledges partners in the Prolife Course who have participated actively in the training and mentoring programs. They include CitizenGo Africa led by Ms. Ann Kioko and Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF) led by Mr. Charles Kanjama.
The Professional chapter of the HLI KENYA has been instrumental in the operations and running of the student chapter. Led by Mr. Augustine Richard Kakeeto, the professional chapter has been close to students in trainings, events and different activities and has been a great motivation to young prolife professionals and graduates.
The activities that HLI KENYA engage in apart from the above mentioned include the annual chastity conference held in February before 14th day of the month, the March for life which happens every year in the month of March, The Prolife Dinner at the end of the year, the annual life week and Charity works in the community.
